Sonoma County Bike Commuter of the Year: Geoffrey Skinner!

Congratulations to Geoffrey Skinner, the Sonoma County 2010 Bike Commuter of the Year. Geoffrey has been a bike commuter for more than 20 years. Each day, rain or shine, he pedals from Sebastopol, to work in Downtown Santa Rosa at the Sonoma County Public Library. He totes his French Horn on days when he has practice for the SRJC Orchestra. “The less time I spend in a car” Skinner says, “the happier I am. No congestion, no fossil fuel used (except in producing/cooking the extra food for to fuel me!), and a chance to be outside. Skinner’s 10 year-old son is also a committed bike commuter. Galen vowed to bike commute every day of the 2009-2010 school year, and has only missed 2 times so far – and those were trips home only, one of which because he had to go to the emergency room (not for a bike-related reason!). Top 10 reasons for not commuting to work
See yourself here?

Did you know that almost 40% of Bay Area commuters live within five miles of their workplace? If everyone who lives within this ideal distance pedaled to work on May 14th, hundreds of thousands of cars would be off the road and air pollution that day would be reduced significantly. Experience bicycle commuting as a healthy and viable way to get to work.
