Join Sonoma Valley residents on Saturday, September 6th, from 1-5 p.m for the 1st annual Sonoma/Springs Bicycle Festival in Sonoma’s Depot Park located at 270 First Street West. The festival, organized by Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition (SCBC), the City of Sonoma, and Sonoma Valley Cyclists, will celebrate cycling as a viable, health-promoting, community-building form of transportation, and provide a wealth of expert information (in Spanish and English) about how to ride safely. For more information on the September 6 Bicycle Festival and detailed info on the public ride route, call 707-545-0153 or email events@BikeSonoma.org. What began as an online chat about cycling safety and how to get more people on bikes in the Sonoma Valley has blossomed into a full-blown festival featuring a guided bike ride, live music, safety education and equipment giveaways, food, speakers and more. This all-afternoon Saturday event is designed to celebrate an eco-friendly, health-promoting alternative to driving, offer safety tips and education, and heighten awareness in a fun, entertaining family-friendly environment. The festival will kick off with a public ride around the Sonoma/Springs region, led by League of American Bicyclists-certified instructor, Martin Clinton, who is SCBC’s Street Skills instructor. The route will highlight what’s working for cyclists in Sonoma Valley, and Clinton will provide tips for how to navigate tricky areas. The ride will begin at 11:00 a.m. behind the Sonoma Barracks and will conclude in Depot Park just as the festivities are beginning. Sonoma Mayor Joanne Sanders and City Councilmember Ken Brown will participate in the ride and the festival. Sonoma County Supervisor Valerie Brown will attend the festival.
