2017 Spring Family Bike Workshop Series is ON – rain or shine!

“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear.” This motto was taken to heart at the launch of our Spring Family Bike Workshop series on Saturday, March 4th. Rain poured in the hours prior to the workshop, but cleared to clouds and intermittent drizzle closer to the start time. Staff briefly considered whether weather should cancel, but decided to move forward after checking in with registered participants who all indicated they were ready to roll!

Decked in rain gear, helmets and smiles, SCBC staff and participating families had a blast building their skills and knowledge on the Biella Elementary School blacktop, and then putting their skills into practice on an instructional ride in the West Santa Rosa neighborhood. The vast majority of parents who attend indicate that they will ride with their children more often as a result of our workshops. In a post-workshop survey from March 4th, one wrote “My kids listen to teachers more than parents, so this helped a lot!”

More Family Bike Workshops are scheduled monthly around the county this Spring and Summer. Our April workshop in Santa Rosa is nearly full – but space is still available in our May workshop in Petaluma, June workshop in Healdsburg, July in Sonoma, and August in Santa Rosa! Workshops will be scheduled monthly through October.

All of our Family Bike Workshops are free – register for an upcoming workshop HERE. 2017 Workshops are funded through grants from the St. Joseph’s Health Foundation and the MTC Spare the Air Youth Program.
