Led by Bruce Hagen and Pete Gang, Safe Streets Petaluma has been a steady advocacy presence in the city since 2022, helping to keep city staff and elected officials on track toward building a safe and connected network for all road users. In their first year, SSP persuaded the City Council to adopt “safe and complete streets” as a citywide goal, and have regularly championed road safety improvements, from bike lanes on D Street to improved intersections and bike lanes on Caulfield Lane.
SSP welcomes community members to its monthly meetings and helps organize family-friendly group rides, including the popular Holiday Lighted Ride. SCBC also thanks them for being regular Bike to Work Day Energizer Station hosts. Their inclusiveness, leadership and perseverance have helped steer physical improvements, as well as culture change, in the city.
