More than 25 years in the making, the new Hearn Avenue overcrossing of Highway 101 in Santa Rosa opened late in 2025, offering an improved east-west connection not only for cars but importantly for bikes. Following support from SCBC, Bikeable Santa Rosa and other community members, the bridge includes protected bikeways and improved sidewalks on both sides, showing that even a highway overcrossing can be a “Complete Streets” project that benefits all road users.
SCBC is pleased that the Hearn project is spurring other nearby bike-friendly improvements, including a planned Class I path connecting the bridge west to the SMART Pathway, and we are optimistic that it becomes a model for similar bridge construction projects moving forward.
