SCBC would like to remind cyclists and motorists to travel with caution through the Laguna De Santa Rosa Bridge construction site on State Highway 12 near Sebastopol as Caltrans continues construction of the new bridge.

The old bridge is being replaced after years of scouring at its base from the Laguna De Santa Rosa Creek. It will remain open during construction, tentatively scheduled to be completed in late 2016. When bridge construction is complete, new shoulders and sidewalks will be accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians. However, the bridge is temporarily without shoulders or sidewalks.

Due to the temporary closure of the Joe Rodata Trail for needed repairs, which is tentatively scheduled to reopen on October 14th, the De Santa Rosa Bridge is experiencing an increase in bike traffic. Please note that no pedestrian or bicycle traffic is allowed beneath the bridge or behind the temporary concrete barriers at any time during bridge construction. Please observe all safety signs and watch for large construction equipment on and beneath the bridge.

SCBC wishes to thank the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for posting “Bicyclists May Use Full Lane” signs on State Route 12 at our request to remind roadway users that cyclists are permitted by law to utilize a full traffic lane when traveling over the SR-12 Laguna De Santa Rosa Bridge.

SCBC, Sonoma County Regional Parks, and Caltrans appreciate your patience during the construction of the new bridge and during repairs to the Joe Rodota Trail.
