Ask Governor Newsom to Sign Safety Bill

The state legislature has passed several critical active transit bills supported by our colleagues at CalBike. The governor has until October 14 to sign or veto bills. If he takes no action, the bill becomes law.

Intersections are often a danger zone for cyclists and pedestrians, especially when parked vehicles block us from drivers’ view; the ever-increasing popularity of gigantic SUVs and trucks renders us invisible.

The Daylighting to Save Lives Bill (AB 413) will change the California Vehicle Code to ban cars and trucks from stopping, standing, or parking within 20 feet of the approach side of crosswalks. Daylighting is a simple, inexpensive way to improve safety and save lives by increasing visibility of cyclists and pedestrians.
