Bike Friendly Business of the Year: Sonoma Clean Power and Shady Oak Barrel House

Bicycle Friendly Business of the Year: Shady Oak Barrel House

Imagine calling a local business on New Year’s Day to ask if you could roll in with fifty cyclists and they not only said yes, but the cyclists literally rode into the business and parked inside? Welcome to Shady Oak Barrel House, home to indoor bike racks and a special love for bicyclists!

Owner Steve Doty prefers to bicycle commute himself most days of the week and loves to support others who love to ride. Most of his employees also commute by bicycle and he even covers his employees’ bicycle maintenance costs.

A special “Golden Spoke” ale has been developed especially for the event.

Safe bicycle storage – in addition to delicious beer at the ready – is one of the many reasons so many cyclists love Shady Oak Barrel House.

Bicycle Friendly Business of the Year: Sonoma Clean Power

Sonoma Clean Power, our local source for renewable and low carbon electricity, is the first entity in Sonoma County to receive Gold level certification as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists.  Not only does SCP offer incentives and bike parking to its employees – they gave ALL their employees a new e-bike! In 2021, SCP launched an e-bike incentive campaign that offered their low-income customers $1000 off at the register when purchasing via a local bike shop; participants also got free helmets and bike education classes. SCP has been a participant in Bike to Work Day and an ongoing sponsor of SCBC.
