Bike to School Day is Wednesday, May 7

May is Bike Month, and Wednesday, May 7 is National Bike To School Day! You’re invited to join students and families from 54 schools around Sonoma County to celebrate the joys of fresh air, exercise and spending quality time with family and friends. Now is the perfect time to get your bike out, oil the chain, pump the tires and get ready to ride.

Brought to you by Sonoma County’s Safe Routes to School program, Bike to School Day is meant to highlight the many benefits of biking, walking and other forms of active transportation, including fewer vehicles on the road and cleaner air. Schools who have signed up receive posters and a supply of fun incentives like spoke spinners and water bottle stickers to hand out to participating students on the morning of May 7.

Many schools are organizing bike trains, where school staff and families meet up at a central destination and ride to school as a big group. This is a safe and fun way to travel together and bring visibility to biking as a form of transportation. For more info about bike trains, check out our resource page.

We hope to see you out there on your own two wheels on May 7, and throughout the month!
