For many kids and adults, a bike is an important mode of transportation and/or recreation. A number of organizations have been working to obtain donated new and/or used bicycles for North Bay Fire Victims, and recently began launching their programs to distribute bicycles to individuals and families in need. We hope that helping get bikes into the hands of those who lost so much will bring some joy and a sense of normalcy to the thousands of families affected by this disaster.
The following programs are currently open and accepting applications.
- Trek Bicycle Store, the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance, and the Coalition are collaborating to assist fire victims by providing new children’s bikes free of costs, based on need and as supplies last. Potential recipients must fill out an online application (English or Spanish).
- The North Bay Bike Project is working with a few other individuals and organizations to obtain new bicycles for kids/families that have lost their homes as the result of the Northern California Fires.
- The King Ridge Foundation and several local bicycle shops have teamed up to collect new and used bikes for kids. Families may complete the Sonoma Pride Aid form and the Foundation will be in touch with further information about how applicants can receive a replacement bicycle and helmet at no cost.
- The Hub Cyclery in Cotati is collecting used bikes, repairing them, and donating to families displaced by the fire.
