Our First Cranksgiving Was a Success!

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels: part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. It was started in 1999 by New York City bike messengers and has spread to over one hundred cities.

We held our inaugural Sonoma County Cranksgiving on Saturday, November 16th. Folks arrived in waves and headed out after coffee and donuts. Twenty-eight riders hauled 277 pounds of donated food. Combined with the 126 pounds collected from the November 12 Santa Rosa Taco Tuesday ride, this event collected over 400 pounds of food for the Redwood Empire Food Bank!

The following awards were distributed:

  • Team Gobble Girls received the Mighty Hauler Award for the most food hauled in one trip.
  • The Turkey Toms snagged the Cranksy Award for the most creative route (if you look real hard, their Strava track resembles a turkey).
  • Megan Chaney’s decorated bike and colorful attire resulted in the Prettiest Pie Award.
  • Fully Cranked Awardees Team Razornipple made multiple runs to bring in the most food overall.

Thanks to everyone who turned out! More photos here.
