Not all heroes wear capes. Or can leap tall buildings in a single bound. Instead, some wear colorful helmets and get around on bicycles.
SCBC will honor our local bicycle rock stars who have made heroic efforts to further our mission to make bicycling safe and accessible to everyone.
The Golden Spoke Awards Gala will be held Saturday, September 30 (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) at the Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa. The awards will include:
- Bike Champion of the Year, an individual who inspires and supports others in the community: Bill Petty.
- Bike Advocate of the Year, a community group or individual working innovatively to get more people on bikes: Alexa Forrester & Chris Guenther of Bikeable Santa Rosa.
- Bike Friendly Businesses of the Year, which have have taken big steps toward making it easy for their employees & customers to bike safely: Sonoma Clean Power and Shady Oak Barrel House.
- Bike Infrastructure Project of the Year, such as bike lane, bike bridge, bike boulevard, bike box, bike parking, bike trail, etc. that improves safety & encourages more riders: Healdsburg’s Foss Creek Trail.
“The award winners are really moving the needle to get more people on bicycles,” said Board Chair Jenny Bard. “We are so appreciative of the many people, businesses and institutions that help us make bicycling safer for kids and commuters throughout the county.”
