The Safe Routes to School team invites the public to join walk audits at four Santa Rosa schools this spring:
March 4: Santa Rosa High School
March 25: Roseland Creek Elementary School
April 29: Schaefer Charter School
May 5: Jack London Elementary School
Participants help identify conditions that affect walking and bicycling near a specific school, and discuss potential solutions to help make the area safer, more comfortable and more welcoming for everyone. The audit team includes city staff, school administration and teachers, parents, community partners and neighbors, and law enforcement.
Our Safe Routes to School Program has facilitated about 40 walk audits in Santa Rosa and Petaluma since September 2023, which have resulted in hundreds of improvements in both cities, including the installation of crosswalks and pedestrian-activated flashing beacons, intersection improvements such as curb extensions and daylighting, lower speed limits in school zones, and new bus shelters and bike lanes.
SCBC Members who live or frequently walk or ride near the schools being audited are welcome to join us for a dynamic, hands-on learning experience. All audits take place in the morning and last around two hours. If you would like to join us, please email Christina for details.
