More Protected Bike Lanes!

The town of Windsor has recently finished installing protected bike lanes on a stretch of Brooks Road South near Windsor Middle School.

The bike lanes are part of a larger project, funded by state grant money, that included the installation of rapid-flashing beacons to bring greater visibility to pedestrians. The narrowing and reduction of vehicle travel lanes created space for a buffered area alongside the bike lanes. A series of green bollards adds another element of separation between bikes and cars.

SCBC supports the construction of protected bike lanes as a critical means of making cycling safer and more accessible for riders of all ages and abilities, but these types of facilities are still few and far between in Sonoma County. Earlier this summer, Santa Rosa finished installing a two-way protected cycletrack on Armory Drive.
