Petition Delivered to CHP

On July 1, SCBC Executive Director Eris Weaver, SRCC President Steve Saxe, Sonoma County Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee member Vin Hoagland, Santa Rosa resident Jack James, and victim’s mother Denise Gaul presented our petition and spoke with CHP Lt. Chris Mullins.

Lt. Mullins listened to our concerns, expressed support for cyclist safety, and promised to share it all with Capt. Hoff when he returns from vacation. We were able to obtain the contact info for the officer in charge of investigating the incident and communication is ongoing.

We were joined by Press Democrat reporter Austin Murphy and photographer Darryl Bush; you can read their story here.

The victim is reportedly in good spirits, is able to walk a bit with a walker, and should be discharged in the next couple days. A relative has started a GoFundMe for him (he’ll be out of work for awhile, need rehab, etc) : https://www.gofundme.com/f/7xb9c-medical-and-living-expenses

We will continue to follow this incident, and the others mentioned in the story.
