SRTS Bike Rodeos serve over 1,030 4th graders this Oct.-Nov.

Between October 3rd and November 10th, our Safe Routes to School staff educated over 1,030 students at 14 schools in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Windsor and Rohnert Park, via our 4th grade Bicycle Rodeo Program. The program consists of an on-bicycle PE class where students learn the basics of bicycling while rotating through four skill-drill courses with direct instruction and encouragement from our SRTS instructors. Low cost helmets, helmet fittings, and bike safety inspections/minor repairs are also provided.

A huge shout out to our partners at Mike’s Bikes, who not only provided bike safety inspections and adjustments to over 480 bicycles, but also produced the fabulous video below highlighting our school Bike Rodeo Program! The video footage was shot at our final bike rodeo of the season, at Proctor Terrace Elementary School on November 10th.

And great appreciation also to SCBC volunteers who assisted with helmet fittings and course monitoring, and local law enforcement officers who supported every bike rodeo with pre-course “bike safety and the law” presentations and enthusiastic “patrolling” on the course.

We’ll serve more schools and cities this March-May during our Spring 4th grade rodeo season!
