Tell Caltrans to Follow Their Own Rules!

Too many of our streets are designed only for motor vehicle traffic; for ten years safety advocates have been promoting the concept of Complete Streets – roadways designed to be safe and accessible for all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, wheelchair users, and automobile drivers.

As Caltrans plans to approve new Complete Streets design standards, a last-minute change would exempt freeway interchanges from Complete Streets evaluation. Think about some of these dangerous spots in Sonoma County that would be exempt:

  • Intersection of Highway 12 and Stony Point Road (including Joe Rodota Trail) in Santa Rosa
  • Every Highway 101 underpass and overpass

A coalition of traffic safety advocates (including SCBC) has sent a letter to Caltrans opposing this exemption. You can add your voice here.
