It has been worth the wait.
This year, SMART will officially complete three new segments of its multiuse pathway in Sonoma County, significantly increasing connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians throughout the region. The new segments – from Petaluma to Penngrove, Rohnert Park to Santa Rosa, and Santa Rosa Airport to Windsor – add over 8 miles to the pathway, bringing the total mileage in Sonoma County to 25.
The pathway provides connections between communities along the SMART rail and gives riders a much needed low-stress north-south route – a critical alternative to busy roads like Petaluma Hill, Stony Point and Old Redwood Highway that will only encourage more people to ride.
The entire pathway system is expected to include 50 miles in Sonoma County. We are thrilled to hear that the next segment – connecting the Santa Rosa North station and the airport – is already teed up for construction in 2026.
