If you ride a bike in Sonoma County, chances are you have met Christine Culver. The first full-time Executive Director of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, Christine is an advocate, leader, friend and lifelong cyclist across just about every discipline. She has a knack for bringing people together, creating positive change and fostering a supportive, inclusive cycling environment.
Originally from Southern California, Christine moved to Sonoma County in 1988 to work in bike shops and race. She has won national titles in mountain biking and collegiate road racing.
In the early 2000s, she became the driving force behind the nascent Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, ensuring cyclists had a voice in city planning and safety discussions. If there was a public meeting, she was likely there, championing the bike community. She considers this work some of the most rewarding because of the impact it has had on improving cyclist safety.
“Seeing that bicycling is taken seriously by our local government… that is huge,” she said.
In 2013, Christine began working for the County of Sonoma as support staff for Supervisor Shirlee Zane, where she also began leading the Biker Chicks, a monthly group ride for women. In 2021, she joined Supervisor Chris Coursey’s staff.
Christine is the Vice President for the Red Peloton Cycling Club and was instrumental in creating a women’s race at the Tuesday Night Twilight criterium in Santa Rosa. She is certified in wilderness first aid and keeps riders safe as a marshal for events such as the Grasshopper Adventure Series. She also continues to race and participate in events of all kinds, and is always encouraging more riders to get involved, whether it’s their 100th race or their first.
Join the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition in recognizing Christine Culver for her lifelong commitment to cycling and the cycling community in Sonoma County.
