Updated March 2025:
This year, every city in Sonoma County will adopt new Active Transportation Plans, guiding the creation of local and countywide bicycle and pedestrian networks. These plans are the result of over a year’s worth of study and public input on what these connected and reliable networks should look like — how residents can get to schools, workplaces and local businesses safely without a car.
But once these plans have been formally approved, the question we’ve been hearing from many advocates is: What happens next? How are specific projects chosen for construction? Who pays for them? And how do we keep this momentum going?
Join SCBC for our second Advocacy Summit on Saturday, March 15 at Sonoma Land Trust in Santa Rosa. Our guest speakers will lead conversations on how active transportation networks are built — from project prioritization to funding — and how advocates can stay involved as cities turn their attention from planning to building.
Our program will include James Cameron, Executive Director of the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, Bjorn Griepenburg, Project Manager for the City of Petaluma, Dan Hennessey, Santa Rosa’s Director of Transportation and Public Works, and Ariel Kelley, Healdsburg City Councilmember.
We will conclude the day with a roundtable conversation welcoming all attendees to share information, challenges and success stories from their communities.
With lively discussion and plenty of opportunities for Q&A, this event promises to benefit all safe cycling advocates, whether you have been fighting the good fight for many years or are new to the cause.
Lunch will be provided, but feel free to bring your own food. Bike parking will be available. Sign up here.
