That’s a Wrap! International Walk and Roll to School Day

Over 6,000 students from 60 schools across Sonoma County celebrated International Walk and Roll to School Day on October 9 by walking, biking, scootering, skateboarding or roller skating their way to school. The Sonoma County Safe Routes to School program coordinates with a host of school administrators, teachers and families to make the event a success.

In September volunteers came to our office to help put together event kits with all the supplies schools need to promote the event, including prizes to reward walkers and rollers.  The day of the event, many schools led bike trains, where families meet up and ride in a group, and walking school buses, where families meet up to walk to school together.

Think of how many fewer cars we had on our roads that day!

Safe Routes to School is looking forward to Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on November 14, another day where students and their families are encouraged to walk or roll to school. We hope to see you out there!
